Manchester United legend Roy Keane has noticed a unique trait from Adam Wharton during England’s latest game and it would help his former side.
Even though we are only a few months into the 2025/26 campaign, Manchester United are already looking ahead to the next summer transfer window.
Their latest business has been praised, with new signings such as Bryan Mbeumo and Senne Lammens being standouts, but there are clear areas within the squad that need improvement.
Ruben Amorim’s side need to bolster their midfield depth and there are already several players linked with a move to Old Trafford for next year.
One of those is Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, who has quickly become one of the most exciting talents in the Premier League over the last couple of years.
Keane explains unique Wharton strength
Wharton was in action for England in their 2-0 win over Albania on Sunday evening and impressed before he was substituted on 75 minutes.
The United target also seemed to impress club legend Roy Keane, who noticed a unique trait that Wharton brings to the table.
Speaking during half-time in the match, Keane told ITV Sport: “I do like Adam Wharton. A lot of the modern midfielders, their first option seems to be, ‘Can I go sideways or backwards?’
“What I like about him, the first option he seems to look at it is, ‘Can I pass it forward?’ And that’s a big strength to have.
“This is where he can mature over the next year or two if he’s playing at the top level, put demands onto people.”
Wharton’s passing would benefit United
When United are at their best, they are attacking quickly. In order to do that, you need players who can supply the ball forward quickly.
Wharton does not only seem to offer that but he can also help dictate a game in deeper areas, which is something that has been missing at Old Trafford for a while.
It is no surprise that United are interested in the England international although it doesn’t seem like a deal would be easy next summer and there are alternative targets.
Elliot Anderson is another player being eyed by those at United and Carlos Baleba remains an option for the Reds next summer.
