Rio Ferdinand has slammed the critics of one “frustrated” Manchester United star after the Reds won 3-2 against Burnley on the weekend.
Manchester United picked up their first win of the season with a dramatic 3-2 triumph over Burnley at Old Trafford.
The hosts went in front early when Burnley’s Josh Cullen mistakenly deflected the ball into his own net.
After the interval, the visitors pulled level, but United hit back quickly as Bryan Mbeumo scored his maiden goal at Old Trafford to restore the lead.
Burnley struck again to make it 2-2 and set up a nervy finale, but Amad won a late penalty that skipper Bruno Fernandes coolly converted to seal the victory for United.
Ferdinand slams critics of “frustrated” United star
At full-time in that clash, United players were clearly relieved and celebrated on the Old Trafford pitch, which led to criticism in the media.
Fernandes was the main target but Rio Ferdinand has slammed those criticising the United captain and explained how it is only natural for him to get his “frustration” out.
The ex-defender even suggested that this is a positive to see from the current captain, who naturally wears his heart on his sleeve.
“I saw people getting on Bruno’s back for celebrating and stuff… mate, he missed a penalty in the last game, he missed a penalty in the last Premier League game,” Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel.
“There’s built up frustration there, getting that frustration out, getting that release is a massive thing. Theres’s some man in this world who never release ever and they’re walking around unhappy.
“People are going, ‘Why’s he celebrating like he’s won the FA Cup?’ Nah, there’s a lot that goes with this, there’s a lot of pressure in this game.”
United keep getting attention
This comes just after a journalist from a reputable outlet spent the entire Burnley game watching Amorim so he could write an article on his every movement. It might be the strangest football-based article ever written.
United might not be the same powerhouse they once was but the attention is still the same and everyone is still looking to criticise something about the club or its players.
Ferdinand’s defence of Fernandes is exactly what you want from an ex-player and he is probably the only one in the media who looks to defend and praise the Reds when appropriate.
Fernandes will undoubtably be criticised more going forward. Perhaps next month it will be about him not caring enough. That is how these things go.
