Rio Ferdinand names four Ruben Amorim replacements after Man Utd sack, including wildcard option

Rio Ferdinand has named four potential replacements for Ruben Amorim at Manchester United after the head coach was sacked.

Ruben Amorim has been relieved of his duties at Manchester United after a series of underwhelming performances and increasing internal tensions.

The Reds were unable to secure all three points against rivals Leeds United in the Premier League at the weekend, extending a run that has seen them record just one victory in their last five matches. Although results have dipped, United remain sixth in the league standings.

Amorim was reportedly facing mounting pressure from within the club to adjust his tactical system. Matters reportedly came to a boiling point after the match at Elland Road, where he delivered a fiery response, stressing that he was the manager and not simply a head coach.

This stance reportedly caused friction with senior figures, including Jason Wilcox, whom Amorim is said to have told to focus on his own role. The ensuing power struggle and breakdown in relationships ultimately led to the Portuguese coach’s dismissal.

After the decision to part ways with Amorim, Manchester United will now turn their attention to identifying the right successor.

Darren Fletcher has been appointed as interim manager, with reports indicating that the club may wait until the summer before naming a permanent replacement.

Former United defender Rio Ferdinand has made his feelings clear about who should be in the dugout next, with the pundit naming three options as replacements for Amorim.

Ferdinand has suggested that Roberto De Zerbi, Xavi Hernandez and Thomas Tuchel should be the experienced managers United consider.

He also stated that he would consider Fletcher for the permanent job at Old Trafford should he have a successful interim period in charge.

It remains to be seen who United decide to appoint, with reports claiming that Christopher Vivell will have an important role in choosing the right man.

United board must get next decision right

United appointed Amorim with the full knowledge that he had only played one system in his short managerial career and he repeatedly explained that he would not change from that.

While his performances as manager have been terrible, the fact that the board almost seem surprised that he stuck with his ideas is a worrying sight as well.

Reports come out about how United have finally assembled an incredible leadership team but the evidence suggests otherwise and they must get this next managerial decision right.
