Rio Ferdinand has revealed what former Manchester United winger Luis Nani told him about Rúben Amorim after he was appointed as the club’s new head coach.

Manchester United have announced Ruben Amorim as their new Head Coach after Erik ten Hag’s departure from Old Trafford.

Despite a contract renewal in the summer, ten Hag’s challenging season saw United slip to 14th in the Premier League and 21st in the Europa League, culminating in his exit on Monday morning.

In response, United moved quickly to appoint Amorim, who will officially start on 11 November as the international break begins. His first game at the helm will be on 24 November, away to Ipswich Town.

Nani’s view on Amoirm

Former United winger and fan favourite Luis Nani now plays for Estrela Amadora and faced Amorim’s Sporting side on Friday evening, losing 5-1 against the new United head coach’s side.

Rio Ferdinand, who is still close with Nani, has revealed what the Portuguese winger has told him about Amorim and pinpoints how this will be different from Ten Hag’s reign at the club.

“I spoke to Nani actually the other day. He said Rio, whatever you want to talk about, tactics or whatever, the players play for him, they love him, and they respect him.

“One of the issues I think with Erik ten Hag, and what he [Nani] said about Amorim, Nani said he’s very straight. Very straight and very direct.

“From what I’m hearing, I’m talking to people who have played for [Amorim], but also been around him as a human, I think the character and the charisma compared to Erik ten Hag will be the big difference.”
