Rio Ferdinand is ‘worried’ that five Manchester United players do not fit into Ruben Amorim’s plans at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim suffered his first defeat as Manchester United head coach on Wednesday evening, with the Reds succumbing to Arsenal after conceding two goals from set pieces at the Emirates Stadium.

The loss came after victories over Everton and Bodo/Glimt, as well as a draw against newly promoted Ipswich Town.

While the results have been far from perfect so far, Amorim is learning key lessons about his squad and has made encouraging strides in adapting his new system.

Yet, the big question remains over many players in the squad and their suitability to the football Amorim wants to play.

Reports have claimed that the club are not going to be extremely busy in upcoming transfer windows but some changes have to be made in order to help the 39-year-old speed up the process.

Former United defender Rio Ferdinand believes there are many players that might not fit into the Portuguese head coach’s plans going forward.

The 46-year-old thinks that five of the attacking players are uncertainties at Old Trafford now, including Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho.

“I worry about whether the players that we have can fit into what Amorim wants,” he said on his Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast.

“You look at Garnacho and you look at Rashford. Can they fit into an inside forward position and is that really the position they are going to excel?

Rasmus Hojlund. Is he going to be our [Viktor] Gyokeres, is he going to be the guy we can play through?

“Antony hasn’t shown that [he fits into the system] yet, Zirkzee as well. Where is he going to fit into all of this?”
