Rio Ferdinand compares Kobbie Mainoo to one of Europe’s greatest-ever midfielders after Man Utd winner
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has claimed he sees similarities between Kobbie Mainoo and European football legend Clarence Seedorf.
Discussing Mainoo following United’s 4-3 win against Wolves, Ferdinand has revealed that he sees several traits that the 18-year-old and the legendary Dutch midfielder share.
Scoring the winning goal in United’s away fixture, Ferdinand would say the following about how Mainoo reminded him of Seedorf:
“I’m not saying he’s of the same ability, or he’s that player yet. But, he gives me the vibes of Clarence Seedorf,” Stated Ferdinand. “The way he can manoeuvre in tight situations, the way he can manipulate the ball, uses his body at times and then shifts it.
“[He’s] illusive at time. It’s the control, and the awareness to be able to pick his spot.”
Seedorf was famously the first player to win the Champions League at three different clubs and has been heralded as one of the finest midfielders European football has ever produced.
Mainoo meanwhile though yet to achieve the heights of Seedorf’s career, has made an instant impact as part of Erik ten Hag’s team.
Making 12 appearances already this season, Mainoo has made himself irreplaceable despite a pre-season injury forcing him to miss the first few months of the season.
Mainoo has made such an impact on the United squad, that his teammates now reportedly believe that he should be one of the first names on Erik ten Hag’s teamsheet.
Not only do his teammates believe he should be one of the first names on the teamsheet now, but club captain Bruno Fernandes has revealed that he told a friend to watch Mainoo several years ago.
