Revealed: Why Bryan Mbeumo is absent from Manchester United squad vs West Ham

Bryan Mbeumo will have to wait longer to make his Manchester United debut after being left out of the squad to face West Ham in their opening Premier League Summer Series clash.

Manchester United are set to face West Ham in New Jersey this evening, with the game being the second of Ruben Amorim’s pre-season preparations.

The Reds drew 0-0 against Leeds last weekend in Sweden and have since travelled to the United States for three further fixtures against the Hammers, Bournemouth and Everton.

Bryan Mbeumo joined the club after that initial game but in time for the beginning of the pre-season tour and has been able to settle in with the group.

Many fans were excited to see the latest signing in action for the first time but will have to wait even longer after it was revealed he is not in the matchday squad.

Why Mbeumo is absent for United vs West Ham

Mbeumo, 25, was spotted travelling to the stadium with his teammates but will not be involved against Graham Potter’s side. He has not even been named on the bench.

Various reports have revealed that the reason for this is that Mbeumo is not as far along in his pre-season schedule as others and not deemed ready to play a game.

Mbeumo had extended leave from Brentford training while United were negotiating a deal for him. When he eventually returned, the now-United player only took part in individual sessions in the gym.

His limited time on the grass is likely the reason for this absence, although some fans might be confused as to why he could not play 20-30 minutes off the bench.

When will Mbeumo make United debut

United’s next game in pre-season comes on Thursday at 02:30 BST, with Bournemouth being the opposition for Amorim’s men.

Mbeumo will have some extra days on the training ground and almost as much time as many United players had before the clash with Leeds.

He will likely be involved in that game, although it is unlikely that he would play more than 45 minutes.

After that, Mbeumo will likely be able to start the final game of the tour against Everton, as well as his first match as a home player at Old Trafford against Fiorentina before the Premier League season begins.
