Sekou Kone will be eyeing a position in the Manchester United midfield under Ruben Amorim in the long-term.

Kone, 18, was a surprise deadline-day signing for Manchester United last summer, joining from Guidars FC for a reported fee of around £1 million.

The teenager’s arrival sparked excitement among United fans, despite most having limited familiarity with the Mali youth international.

Kone had caught the eye with standout performances at the 2023 U17 World Cup, drawing the attention of United’s scouting team.

His signing reflects a shift in United’s recruitment strategy under INEOS ownership, addressing the kind of deals the club had often overlooked in previous years.

Since joining the club, Kone has made a handful of appearances for the Under-21s and impressed as the club take his integration carefully.

When Kone will get chance under Amorim at United

United have looked to keep the hype around Kone to the bare minimum. There was no interview with club media after he signed and various reports have reiterated that they are not rushing the midfielder.

Kone swapped Mali for England and has been getting the opportunity to adapt to his new life in Manchester, while also being allowed to get up to speed with the higher intensity levels he faces on the pitch for the Under-21s.

However, despite that, there is no hiding that the club believe that he has extremely high potential and could be a first-team regular in the future.

A new report from GiveMeSport has explained that Kone is expected to be given a chance to prove himself to Ruben Amorim in pre-season, which suggests he could be included in the club’s summer tour squad.

It was added that the staff at United believe Kine has the potential to thrive in the Portuguese boss’ new system, but once again stressed that there is no rush to fast-track the teenager.

Kone believes Amorim is perfect boss

Kone will have no complaints about biding his time before trying to break into the first-team squad at Old Trafford.

He has not played a lot of football for the Under-21s and will want to become a consistent performer at PL2 level before the end of the season.

Thankfully, the teenager believes that Amorim ‘loves’ integrating youngsters, suggesting that he is working under the perfect head coach for opportunities to come.

“The new manager is a believer in the beautiful game, he loves youngsters too,” Kone recently claimed. “I just have to work really hard and take my chance when it comes.”
