Three Manchester United players could be set for a January loan move, with several EFL sides interested after Sheffield Wednesday’s move.
Manchester United’s academy has always been a crucial part of the football club. There has been an academy graduate in every matchday squad since October 1937, truly a record like no other.
Despite Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford leaving the club in the summer, United have maintained the record through Kobbie Mainoo, Tyler Fredricson and Jack Fletcher, while there are some promising talents on loan.
Enzo Kana-Biyik – who joined United in the summer transfer window, much like Paul Pogba many years ago – immediately signed for INEOS-owned Lausanne for the full season. Sékou Koné appeared close to joining him, but he remained with Travis Binnion’s under-21s instead.
In the Championship, Harry Amass and Radek Vitek are shining, with both players starting week in, week out for Sheffield Wednesday and Bristol City, respectively. Wednesday are so happy with Amass’ loan move that they are eyeing a move for Gabriele Biancheri and Victor Musa in January, although it appears only one will leave in the winter window.
Ethan Williams is another United youngster to impress on loan this season. The versatile wide player, who scored for Rúben Amorim’s senior team in pre-season, has one goal and three assists for Falkirk in the Scottish Premiership.
3 United youngsters set for January move
While Sheffield Wednesday were eyeing both Biancheri and Musa in the January window, only one will be allowed to leave on loan. The Daily Mail have reported that Biancheri is among three United youngsters who fans should “keep an eye on” for a January loan move.
James Scanlon, a full Gibraltar international, is another who could leave for the remainder of the season. Williams’ success in Scotland has led a number of teams to look “closely” at Scanlon, as the two share a similar ball-striking ability.
While a number of clubs are looking at Shea Lacey, it is understood that United won’t sanction a loan move for the exciting young winger. He could make his debut during the African Cup of Nations when Bryan Mbeumo and Amad are away from Old Trafford.
Jayce Fitzergerald – a dynamic midfielder who can play as both a defensive and an attacking midfielder – has attracted interest from several League One sides after impressive performances for the under-21s this season.
He could face off against Dan Gore and Jack Moorhouse in League One, who are on loan at Rotherham United and Leyton Orient, respectively.
United must use Lausanne for development
Koné was close to joining Kana-Biyik at Lausanne, but United have yet to loan anyone else to the Swiss club; however, that must change during the January transfer window.
Manchester City and Chelsea have paved the way for the multi-club model in the Premier League. While they probably shouldn’t exist, they do, so United must look to use their own if they want to compete for top titles in years to come.
Most clubs use the multi-club model to sign youngsters for a cheaper fee, but United already have a great group of talented academy players, so they should loan them to Lausanne.
Loaning another player to the Swiss side could also help Kana-Biyik settle in Manchester at the end of the season, as he will already know at least one player.
