Antony revealed that he has gone through a personal ‘shock’ recently and detailed Manchester United’s help through the process.

The Brazilian scored his fourth United goal in the FA Cup win against Everton, finishing off a perfect cross from Marcus Rashford to help send The Reds into the fourth-round.

His celebration was telling; fingers in the ears before putting his index finger towards his lips to ‘shush’ the Everton away support. The winger has been getting flack for his performances since returning from the World Cup.

Antony spoke after the match and explained that he has experienced difficulties in his personal life lately but received help from the club and has moved forward.

“I’m happy to score again, especially at home,” he began, talking to Brazilian journalist Fred Caldeira. “I also feel relieved as recently I had a shock but I prefer not to comment on what happened. It was a personal matter, really hard. But I’m grateful to God for putting it behind me.

“I am grateful to the club, to the players, to the manager, to everyone that stayed by my side. It’s in the past now.”

This is not the only situation that has been handled carefully by Ten Hag. Jadon Sancho has also had problems physically and mentally that the manager has dealt with perfectly. It’s good to know that alongside being a top manager, he also understands the people behind the player; something that Sir Alex Ferguson has said holds great importance.

The Brazilian did not want to explain the details of the situation but stressed the importance of his family, especially during this moment of his life.

“It was a really, really difficult moment for me but God has always been on my side and I’m grateful to my family.

“I dedicate this goal to them, it’s in moments like these that you know who really loves you.”

Following his goal against The Blues on Thursday, Antony’s priority is to help United continue their solid form against Charlton Athletic on Tuesday.

“Now it’s about focusing on what’s next, we have a quarter-final to play,” added Antony.
