Real Madrid ‘eye £90m move’ for key Manchester United star ahead of summer window

Manchester United could be set to lose one of their key men this summer, with Real Madrid currently keeping a close eye. The player in question could potentially make a £90m switch this summer.

United have been the club buying players from Real Madrid in recent years, with Raphael Varane and Casemiro both signing for the side from Old Trafford since the turn of the decade, but the tides may be about to turn, with the Reds reportedly under threat of losing a key star to the Spanish giants.

Madrid are building another Galactico-esque side to try and dominate Europe for the coming seasons, and they are looking to add some depth to their midfield to do so, particularly in the attacking midfield role.

United may find it difficult to keep their captain Bruno Fernandes this summer due to this interest, particularly if they fail to win the Europa League in the coming months, leading to another season without European football.

Madrid eye move for Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes has quite comfortably been one of the best players, let alone midfielders, in the world this season, and his form has reportedly caught the eye of Real Madrid. Bruno turned down big money moves to Saudi and PSG last summer to commit to United, but the emergence of Madrid into the race could be something he can’t turn down.

According to the Daily Star, Real Madrid wants to sign Bruno Fernandes this summer. The report suggests Madrid has been present at virtually every United game this season, and the one player they are watching is the Portuguese midfielder.

United will be eager not to lose Bruno this summer, but another year without Champions League football could make it difficult to keep hold of the 30-year-old, who is still under contract at the club until 2027. Los Blancos are looking to sign Fernandes due to the departure of Luka Modric, who is anticipated to retire at the end of the campaign.

Ruben Amorim has spoken about how Manchester United ‘needs more players like Bruno,’ so any potential departure for his captain this summer would be against the interests of the manager.

Nobody could blame Bruno for leaving

Bruno Fernandes has given everything to the club since he signed in January of 2020, and if he were to leave this summer, nobody could blame him. This is a player deserving of challenging for the biggest honors football has to offer, and that hasn’t been something he’s been able to do since signing for Manchester United, through arguably no fault of his own.

If he were to decide he wants to win one of the big trophies before he retires, which at this stage of his career is not far away, nobody could blame the midfielder. United needs to make sure they are in the Champions League next season to stand any chance of keeping this world-class player at the club; otherwise, it will be more than just Real Madrid lurking around attempting to sign him.
