Real Betis sporting director provides important update on “crazy” Antony transfer saga

Real Betis are aiming to secure the re-signing of Antony this summer, with the Brazilian preferring a return to Southern Spain over a move elsewhere.

Antony is a player involved in Ruben Amorim’s five-man-bomb-squad and will likely be sold in the near future, as the Brazilian explores a move away from Manchester United.

Real Betis are the leading contender to sign the 25-year-old, after returning from the Spanish club this summer.

Antony joined Real Betis in the January transfer window and quickly became a fan favourite with a string of impressive performances.

Now the Seville club is in talks with United about a potential permanent move for the winger, with the club’s sporting director speaking about the Antony transfer saga earlier this month.

Fajardo unwilling to do anything “crazy” for Antony

Real Betis have already spent over £30 million in signings this transfer window, and are cautiously approaching re-signing winger Antony.

Antony is a desired target for the Spanish club, and he is holding out for Betis, as Fajardo said, talking to AS, “Both parties want him to be here this season”.

The Brazilian scored nine goals and recorded five assists in all competitions last year, capturing the hearts of ‘Los verdiblancos’ in his short stint at the club.

Though this seems like a dream move for both the player and club, Fajardo iterated how the finances must be right on the deal, and that Betis won’t be forced into paying more than they deem the appropriate value.

“If Antony is here, it’s because the numbers add up. The most important thing is the club’s sustainability; we can’t do anything crazy,” Fajardo commented.

“It’s okay to think big, but you also have to keep your feet on the ground. If he doesn’t sign with a club, there are still options, but the deal would take place within the parameters we have budgeted at the club.”

Antony out of reckoning at Utd

The Brazilian has had an adverse time in Manchester after signing for a hefty fee in 2023, one of Erik ten Hag’s dream signings, which proved futile for the future of the club and player.

For approximately £86 million, Antony signed for the Reds with great expectation, and despite a stellar debut goal against Arsenal, he failed to live up to the high anticipation from the fans.

Now with one foot out the door, Antony desires a resurgence in his career at Betis, but United’s stubbornness on finances could be the fault in negotiations.

At a pivotal stage in his career, the winger and his camp must decide on his future, and that decision must align with United’s preferences, however long that will take.
