RB Leipzig have issued a five-word update on Benjamin Šeško amid a continuing transfer battle between Manchester United and Newcastle.
Manchester United have made their first official move for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško, with Rúben Amorim prioritising the signing of a new centre-forward.
United’s bid is worth around £65 million, plus a further £9 million in add-ons, as they push to land their top striker target this summer.
Newcastle remain strong contenders, having submitted a £78 million offer for the 22-year-old Slovenian international on Monday evening.
Reports suggest both United and Newcastle have reached initial agreements on personal terms with Šeško, but neither club has finalised a deal with Leipzig.
Leipzig issue Šeško training update
While United’s team flew back from their pre-season tour of the United States earlier this week, Leipzig have been in Germany, and recently held an open training session.
Around 1,000 fans attended the day in Cottaweg on Tuesday as they ramp up preparations to improve after a disappointing 2024/25 campaign left them finishing 7th in the German Bundesliga table.
However, Leipzig issued confirmation in a six-word conversation statement that the 22-year-old Slovenian was training alone. “Benjamin Šeško is training individually today,” they stated on X.
This comes just a few days after Šeško was not involved in the German club’s 2-1 friendly loss against Atalanta on the weekend amid ongoing speculation surrounding his future.
United confident they will sign Šeško
Although United launched a heavy-hitting £73 million offer for the 22-year-old, this is around £5 million less than what Newcastle have tabled.
However, it has been repeatedly stated in reports that United would only table an offer if they felt confident that Šeško would be willing to join, and their bid suggests they believe they have the upper hand.
United have already agreed on personal terms with the player, and are confident that they will sign the striker.
With Newcastle setting a 48-hour deadline for the striker to make a final decision, and with the player no longer in team training at Leipzig and both offers officially in, a conclusion will likely be reached before the end of the week.
