RB Leipzig have made shock proposal to Manchester United in Benjamin Sesko negotiations, it could be perfect

RB Leipzig have made a shock proposal to Manchester United in their negotiations surrounding a deal for Benjamin Sesko.

Manchester United have reportedly identified RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko as their top target to bolster the centre-forward position this summer.

Following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Diego Leon, the club’s attention has now shifted to securing a natural No.9.

Despite Bruno Fernandes finishing last season as United’s leading scorer with 19 goals in all competitions, only three other players reached double figures, underlining the pressing need for a reliable and consistent goal-scorer.

Ruben Amorim has made signing a central striker a key priority ahead of the new season, with Sesko emerging as the frontrunner.

The 22-year-old Slovenian forward, who scored 21 goals in all competitions for RB Leipzig during the 2024/25 campaign, has been on United’s radar for some time.

United and fighting for Sesko’s signature with Newcastle, who have already seen an offer for the striker rejected by the Bundesliga side.

Fresh reports from Sky Sports have explained that United are also set to make an offer and that Sesko would prefer a move to Old Trafford if an agreement can be reached.

More interestingly, however, the report added that Leipzig have proposed to United about including Rasmus Højlund in the deal for Sesko, but surprisingly, they would be willing to take the Dane on loan.

It was not specified, but this would likely include an option or obligation to buy the Danish striker, who has been described as a ‘dream’ signing for the German club.

Højlund has explained his desire to stay at United but it is likely that he would be willing to move if the club told him he was not in their plans for this coming season.

Højlund loan could be perfect

The prospect of only sending Højlund on loan to Leipzig is an interesting once, especially if there is no obligation for them to buy the player.

It could be the best of both worlds, with United getting an upgrade in Sesko while allowing Højlund to develop elsewhere before a final decision comes next summer.

Højlund would also be able to develop in the Bundesliga and the football suits him a lot more, meaning he would likely be able to increase his value.

It remains to be seen whether this is actually a viable solution in negotiations between United and Leipzig but from the outside it seems perfect for the Reds.
