RB Leipzig ‘bracing’ for club-record transfer attempts as Man Utd line up summer transfer priority

RB Leipzig are expecting a club record fee for one of their wonderkids amid interest from Manchester United.

Last summer’s overhaul of the attack with signings of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko has already proved to be effective.

In the 2024/25 season, Manchester United scored only 44 goals, the fifth-fewest in the league. However, the club have already beaten that measly tally, having scored 50 goals so far, which puts them third in the rankings.

One position in the attack that does need addressing is the left-wing position. Following Patrick Dorgu’s injury, the club has lacked that presence on the left that occupies the width.

With the return of Marcus Rashford unlikely, it is no surprise to see United begin to be linked to more and more wingers as the summer window approaches.

Leipzig want £87 million for Diomande

Yan Diomande has taken the world by storm this season after a fantastic debut campaign for RB Leipzig, as well as impressing in the AFCON with the Ivory Coast alongside Amad.

The winger has registered ten goals and seven assists in all competitions so far for the German outfit and has taken the mantle of being the talisman from Xavi Simons, who left the club for Spurs in the Summer.

Being an aggressive and highly technical winger, it is no surprise to see the club linked to the player alongside some of Europe’s most elite sides, including interest from United.

However, according to Phillip Hinze, Leipzig is bracing itself for a club-record £87 million sale but are trying to convince the player to stay one more year in the Bundesliga.

A move too soon?

The quality of Diomande is clear to see. Highly intelligent, silky dribbling, two-footed, which makes him unpredictable and able to play on either wing and also clinical.

However, this is the 19-year-old’s first full season in a top-five league, and it would be easy to splash the cash on a raw talent, but we have seen before that paying a huge fee for a young player does not always end well.

He should be given time to perfect his abilities in the Bundesliga, as he is ultimately still a raw talent, and United need players who can immediately impress. We have seen before players from the Bundesliga make the switch to England and not always hit the ground running.

That being said, if United ends up pursuing the Ivorian, you cannot argue with their reasoning, with him being arguably the standout youngster in world football.
