Rasmus Højlund’s stance on Manchester United future revealed as Leeds links emerge
Manchester United are having an extremely underwhelming season and Rasmus Højlund has been one of the biggest underperformers.
Rasmus Højlund signed for Manchester United from Atalanta in the summer of 2023 for a staggering £73 million price tag.
The novice striker experienced difficulties during his debut campaign at Old Trafford but still managed to net 16 goals in all competitions.
After a respectable return in 2023/24, it was hoped that Højlund would kick on and improve further this term, but instead the opposite has happened.
Right now, the Dane has seven goals in all competitions and just two in the Premier League this season. He has played 33 games and is without a goal in his last 16 appearances.
Højlund’s all-round game has also looked extremely poor as the season progresses and his questionable form has led to questions about his future.
Højlund’s stance on United future explained
Recent reports have linked Højlund to a shocking transfer to Leeds United, who are currently in the Championship but likely to be promoted.
However, journalist Ben Jacobs has clarified that such rumours are untrue, and that a move to Leeds for Højlund will not be happening.
Jacobs also explains that the 22-year-old’s preference is to remain at Old Trafford as he looks to try and turn things around.
“It’s not true to my understanding, despite some rumours, that Rasmus Hojlund is on Leeds’ shortlist,” Jacobs told GiveMeSport.
“Naturally, it would be a huge fee and a huge wage, the player still wants to stay at Manchester United, and Manchester United have no real ability selling this summer to make anything other than a book loss.
“So it’s been very much dismissed, any links between Hojlund and Leeds.”
There would not be major surprise if Højlund was to leave the club in the summer, but if it was to happen, there should be some concerns.
Højlund is trying to be a starting centre-forward in the Premier League before he is ready to do so, but that doesn’t make him a bad player and it’s not exactly his fault that he finds himself in this situation.
When he joined the club, the Dane had so many exciting attributes but they have seemed to be slowly plucked away whilst he’s been in the firing line at Old Trafford.

Not many strikers are at top level in the early twenties and almost none have the spotlight shining on them like you do if you play at United.
Amorim unquestionably needs another striker, who is more experienced and can guarantee goals, but Højlund also deserves to stay at the club and work behind that player which is what should have happened when he joined.
