Rasmus Højlund wants shock ‘assurance’ before completing AC Milan move, Man Utd will be pleased

Manchester United striker Rasmus Højlund reportedly wants a shock assurance before he completes a move to AC Milan this summer.

Following the arrivals of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Šeško, Manchester United are now focused on outgoings.

The club still hope to strengthen in midfield and in goal before the window shuts but further spending is dependent on recouping funds after an outlay of roughly £200m.

As a result, United are open to offers for several first-team players, with Rasmus Højlund and Alejandro Garnacho attracting interest from elsewhere.

The Danish forward has been sold to leave United and AC Milan have become a potential destination for him this season.

Højlund wants shock ‘assurance’ before completing AC Milan move

There have been talks over a potential loan deal which sees Højlund move to AC Milan next season and developments have been made.

According to a new report from Gazzetta dello Sport, United have wanted a package worth around £43 million, including a loan fee and the option to buy the player.

But Milan are stuck at £34 million. There is an awareness from both clubs that a deal can be struck in the middle of those two figures.

It was explained that there is a belief that an overall deal worth £38 million, with an option to buy of just under £34 million, would be agreed upon.

However, while Milan have also guaranteed Højlund that they can continue covering his full salary whilst on the loan, he wants assurances about joining the club permanently.

That is an interesting development considering Højlund was so fixed on staying at Old Trafford beforehand, but it is likely welcomed by those at the club.

Why Højlund’s stance might have changed

Højlund’s reported change in stance is likely due to the situation he has seen several United stars fall into this summer.

Antony and Jadon Sancho both experienced solid loan spells away from Old Trafford last term at Real Betis and Chelsea, respectively.

But they remain at the club and still don’t have new clubs despite the Premier League season being underway. They are at an awkward middle ground that Højlund might not want to experience himself.

Of course, there is always the chance that he succeeds in Italy and makes a comeback at United, but a clean break is not a bad thing.

It remains to be seen whether a potential permanent deal, or a loan with an obligation to buy the striker, occurs in the remaining weeks of the window.
