Rasmus Højlund has revealed a secret message Rúben Amorim told him that caused Manchester United’s third goal against Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League.

Rúben Amorim has secured his first win as Manchester United‘s new head coach as they defeated Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

The game was Amorim’s first time leading the team at Old Trafford, with Alejandro Garnacho scoring inside one minute following fantastic pressing from Rasmus Højlund.

However, two quick goals from the visitors saw Amorim’s team go behind after 25 minutes, although Højlund was able to grab one back just before half-time with a brilliant control and finish.

In the second half, Højlund grabbed his second of the night to regain United their lead following fantastic interplay between Mason Mount and Manuel Ugarte, who provided the assist for what turned out to be the winning goal.

Bodo/Glimt continued to push for an equaliser, but some stunning saves from André Onana as full-time loomed secured United their second win in the Europa League this campaign.

Amorim’s half-time message

United’s display in the second half was much more measured and confident than in the first, which is an improvement from the draw against Ipswich on the weekend.

SPeaking to TNT Sports, goalscorer and match winner Højlund has revealed the message Amorim gave the players in the dressing room that helped inspire the display.

“I always try to stay inside the 16-yard box,” the Danish striker explained. “I get a good corner run from Manu, and we’ve worked on these sort of things.

“The manager told me at half-time to ‘try to stick to running at the first post’. Then we saw how it worked out.”

He continued: “I think we can already see now today some patterns and it’s getting better. But obviously the manager needs time, he got into the season after a difficult start.

“So yeah, now it’s just for us to sort of build on it. And for me, I think the system reminds me a little bit about how I played in Atalanta with 3-4-3. And yeah, it suits me very well.”
