Rasmus Højlund reminds Man United of major striker hint, INEOS could make adjustment
Rasmus Højlund has reminded Manchester United about an interesting striker option that could cause an adjustment at Old Trafford next season.
Højlund, 21, scored 16 goals for United last term during his debut campaign for the club. It was a mixed season for the striker, who was often left isolated up front.
It has been widely reported that INEOS has placed signing another signing as a priority this summer, alongside new midfielders and centre-backs, but there could be something to keep in mind when addressing the centre-forward position.
The Denmark striker has gone away on international duty with his country, with Euro 2024 around the corner. He recently played during a 2-1 friendly win over Sweden.
While it was Christian Eriksen who received the plaudits during the clash, having scored and assisted the two goals, Højlund showed an impressive display despite not scoring.
“There was no FA Cup hangover with Højlund, who was a pestilence for the Swedish defenders,” Tipsbladet assessed. “He pressed well and was a constant threat with his speed.”
Interestingly, the 21-year-old was playing in a strike partnership with Jonas Wind during that encounter. Højlund has been a lone no.9 during his time at Old Trafford so far.
However, the young forward also excelled in a two-man forward line at Atalanta, where he developed a strong connection with Ademola Lookman.
This could serve as a reminder to United about the possibility of Højlund playing in a strike partnership at Old Trafford and could influence INEOS’ decision regarding a striker signing.
Of course, it is unlikely that the team will completely adjust to a two-man striker system because of this. But it could be an interesting alternative during certain games and should be something that is considered.
