Rasmus Højlund has revealed a key change he made during the win over Brentford which one Manchester United legend has been crying out for.

The Reds secured a 2-1 win on Saturday afternoon against Brentford after going behind in the first-half.

Goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Højlund secured an important three points for Erik ten Hag‘s side.

Højlund was extremely impressive throughout the game and deserved to open his Premier League account.

Speaking on The Overlap in May, Andy Cole suggested that Højlund needed to stop focusing on battles with the opposition defenders.

“He has an obsession to want to fight the centre-half. (You) don’t need to. Not in a modern-day game,” explained Cole.

This assessment was shared by many United fans, who were frustrated with Højlund’s approach in certain situations last term.

However, against Brentford on Saturday, the 21-year-old goalscorer changed his focus and thrived in the 2-1 win.

He did not only score the eventual winner but also provided some great hold-up and link-up play throughout the match.

Speaking after the game, the Danish striker admitted that he was trying to avoid ‘fighting’ with the defenders and instead getting the ball to his feet.

“I was trying not to fight too much with the defenders,” he told club media. “I was trying to focus on getting the ball to my feet.”

Højlund added: “I’m trying to bring everything I can every time I step on the pitch, especially here [at Old Trafford].”

Cole and United fans will be extremely happy with the striker’s comments, as it shows that he recognises the weaknesses in his game and is trying to improve on them.

He has now scored two goals in three starts this season and will be hoping to build on that form in the coming weeks.
