Rasmus Højlund has provided a fresh update on his fitness as the Manchester United striker prepares to face Spain with Denmark on Saturday evening.

Rasmus Højlund‘s second season with Manchester United is only getting started in October following an injury sustained in pre-season.

After rejoining Erik ten Hag‘s squad following the 2024 European Championships with Denmark, Højlund played just over 20 minutes against Arsenal, scoring, but then had to come off with a hamstring injury shortly after.

Unfortunately for Højlund, this issue ruled him out for around two months. The striker only enjoyed his first start earlier this month against FC Porto, where he scored and played 68 minutes.

Before this, he came off the bench against Crystal Palace, FC Twente, and Tottenham Hotspur, and he also played a further 64 minutes in the club’s most recent game, where they drew 0-0 with Aston Villa.

Højlund was since called up to the Denmark national side, who play Spain on Saturday evening in a Nations League tie, and he was asked if he feels he can play a full 90 minutes, having not done so since United’s win in the FA Cup final against Coventry City in April.

“There is no point in rushing things and risking another injury,” Højlund admitted to the press.

“My body feels good again. I might be ready to play 90 minutes, but if I also use my brain a little bit, I don’t think 90 minutes on Saturday against Spain is a good idea.”

He continued: “I’ve lost a little weight, but it doesn’t matter. I know there are some benefits to being a little lighter and some benefits to being a little heavier. I’m not focused on the scale. I’ve gotten used to the fact that my weight fluctuates a little bit.”

Højlund is expected to continue to lead the line for United once the club return to domestic duties. They will face Brentford at Old Trafford as Ten Hag faces increasing pressure on his job.
