Rasmus Hojlund disagrees with Paul Scholes on Man Utd striker’s ‘problem’

Rasmus Hojlund has scored three goals for Manchester United so far and wants to further improve his game going forward.

The striker was not on the scoresheet during United’s latest win against Copenhagen in the Champions League, but he produced a well-rounded striker’s performance throughout.

Paul Scholes, the ex-United midfielder, has praised the striker but believes that he needs better crossers within the squad to get the best out of him and stated that Marcus Rashford does not deliver those moments.

“It takes a lot to fill that shirt, but he’s a very young player,” Scholes told TNT Sports. “He’s not got a great goalscoring record as of yet, but he’s getting into great positions.

“He needs to find out what kind of centre-forward he is: is he more of a Rudd Van Nistelrooy or an Alan Shearer-type player? For me, he’s more of a Shearer, where he’s going to want balls crossed into him.

“The only problem with that is United don’t really have wide players that cross the ball – [Marcus] Rashford doesn’t, Antony tries to cut inside and shoot every single time, but [Sergio] Reguilon can cross a ball. Luke Shaw is to come back as well.”

However, Hojlund disagrees with that sentiment and believes that he and Rashford in particular are building a positive relationship on the pitch.

“You can see we are trying to find each other,” he said. “In the Sheffield [United] game, he nearly got an assist to me, and I think he has already assisted me twice in the Champions League.

“We are definitely trying to find each other on the pitch and I also tried to find him with a deep pass today, so we have a good connection.”

The 20-year-old striker also addressed the strong relationship he has already built with the Old Trafford faithful, who have expressed their dissatisfaction when the Dane has been replaced in games, including on Tuesday evening.

“I play for my boyhood club. I have always supported Manchester United, so I am living my dream every day. I try to show personality and want to give 110 per cent every time I play a football match, so maybe that is the reason why they are showing a special bond towards me.”
