“He will be a superstar…” Man United youngster praised for role in Aston Villa victory
Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund has been highlighted as a future superstar by former Arsenal and Aston Villa star Paul Merson.
Following his vital goal in United’s 2-1 Premier League win against Aston Villa, Hojlund would catch the eye of Merson.
It was thanks to Hojlund, as well as two goals from Alejandro Garnacho that United were able to turn around a two-goal deficit in their previous league game against Villa late last year.
Writing in his Sky Sports column, Merson would praise Højlund as one of the stars of the future following his recent performances.
“I like him. He’s a young kid, he’s 21 and playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world,” Stated Merson. “If there was one thing you could bottle up in football, you ask anyone, it’s confidence.
“He’s got confidence now, and football is all about confidence. He holds the ball up well and lays it off well to the wingers.
“You start to get into the game a lot more, and the confidence rises. Those chances keep coming, and you start to take them.
“In those first 10 games, when he was going without a goal, he was snatching at everything. And he’s got it.
“If that ball [for Hojlund’s opening goal] at Villa comes in at the start of the season, he would’ve hit it as hard as he could. But he places it under the goalkeeper.
“He’s a good player, I think he will be a superstar.”
As Merson stated, Højlund struggled in the Premier League at the start of the season, but currently, the Danish international finds himself on a run of scoring in five consecutive league matches.
Hojlund is not the first Man United youngster that Merson has praised of late.
Last week, the former Arsenal forward stated that Kobbie Mainoo’s stunning strike against Wolves was something Messi and Ronaldo might score.
