Champions League football is within touching distance as Manchester United travel to The Vitality Stadium on Saturday afternoon to face Bournemouth.

Erik ten Hag‘s men bounced back from consecutive defeats last weekend with a 2-0 win against Wolves at Old Trafford but this week they’re back on the road where Manchester United have struggled this season.

The race for Champions League football is set to go to the wire after Liverpool’s recent run of results has put them well in contention of finishing in the top four.

However, United will know that their destiny is in their own hands, with two wins from the remaining three games enough to secure participation in Europe’s elite club competition next season.

Bournemouth recently secured their Premier League status after a difficult start to the campaign. The bookmaker’s favourites for relegation turned a corner after Scott Parker’s dismissal and Gary O’Neil can perhaps consider himself unfortunate not to be shortlisted for Manager of the Year.

The last time United travelled to The Vitality Stadium was back in 2019 and it ended in a 1-0 defeat. Erik ten Hag will be hoping that his woes away from Old Trafford don’t continue this weekend.

Here is the team news ahead of the 3 o’clock kick-off at The Vitality Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Manchester United team news

Raphael Varane is set to keep his place at centre back with the United boss confirming in his press conference that the French defender is ‘definitely available’. Varane was substituted last weekend with ten minutes remaining on his return to the side from injury.

Marcus Rashford has trained all week but remains doubtful after reporting an illness on Friday.

Scott McTominay has returned to training and could be in contention for a place on the bench after his recent injury lay-off. Marcel Sabitzer was ruled out for the remainder of the season earlier this week with a knee injury.

Bournemouth team news

Marcus Tavernier, Junior Stanislas, Hamed Traore and Ryan Fredericks are all set to remain sidelined for The Cherries with Gary O’Neil also confirming that Antoine Semenyo is set to miss the rest of the campaign through injury.

Kieffer Moore was part of the Bournemouth squad last weekend after recovering from a concussion and could return to the starting line-up after back-to-back defeats in his absence.
