Rashford, Mount, Felix: Latest Manchester United team news vs Chelsea
Manchester United welcome Frank Lampard’s Chelsea to Old Trafford for their penultimate game of the Premier League season.
A single point will be enough for Erik ten Hag’s men to secure Champions League football next season with a game to spare. The Reds will be keen to secure the result they need against Chelsea which should give the United boss the ability to rest some players for the Fulham clash on Sunday with one eye on the FA Cup final.
Erik ten Hag’s maiden season as United boss could end with two trophies and Champions League football which would be seen as success but the story is very different for Thursday night’s visitors.
Chelsea find themselves lingering in the bottom half of the table and look set for their lowest league finish since the mid-90s. The appointment of Frank Lampard hasn’t changed their fortunes with the former Everton manager only winning one game since being appointed in early April.
It’s a fixture that has a history of regular draws in recent times and almost every United supporter would snatch your hand off for a similar result on Thursday evening. Here is the team news ahead of the 8:00pm kick-off at Old Trafford.
Manchester United team news
There are no fresh concerns for Erik ten Hag who will be keen to keep his key players fit and ready for the FA Cup final a week on Saturday.
Marcus Rashford, who withdrew from the squad last week due to illness, has been pictured in training with a return to the squad looking likely.
Scott McTominay made his return for the Reds in last weekend’s victory at Bournemouth as a substitute and will be in contention to start. Marcel Sabitzer and Lisandro Martinez remain sidelined and won’t feature again this season.
Donny van de Beek has been pictured back in training at Carrington following a significant layoff due to a knee injury, however, he is still not available for selection.
Chelsea team news
Frank Lampard is set to be without the England trio of Reece James, Ben Chilwell and Mason Mount for the visit to Old Trafford. Mason Mount has been hotly linked with a move to Manchester United in the past 24 hours but the England international will have to observe Thursday’s game from the sidelines.
Lampard confirmed in his press conference that Joao Felix has returned to training after withdrawing from the squad last weekend so the Portuguese attacker should be available.
Benoit Badiashile has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a hamstring injury whilst Chelsea are still missing the likes of Marc Cucurella, Mateo Kovacic, Armando Broja and N’Golo Kante.
