Erik ten Hag has provided the latest on Marcus Rashford and Antony’s injuries as Manchester United prepare to face Liverpool in South Carolina.

Manchester United have completed four pre-season fixtures so far in the summer of 2024, with one more to go. They suffered a 1-0 defeat to Rosenborg but bounced back with a 2-0 victory over Rangers in Scotland, with goals from Amad Diallo and Joe Hugill. New signing Leny Yoro made his unofficial debut after his £52 million transfer from Lille.

In their first USA fixture, United faced Arsenal and lost 2-1 but gave fans something to cheer about by winning the pre-arranged penalty shootout 4-3. They then played Real Betis in San Diego, securing a 3-2 victory in a fantastic match.

Next, United will play Liverpool at 00:30 BST on Sunday, 4 August, at the Williams-Brice Stadium in South Carolina, concluding their USA pre-season tour. They will then face Manchester City in the Community Shield on Saturday, 10 August.

Despite the many positives of the Betis win, one dampener in the fixture was that wingers Anthony and Marcus Rashford both had to be substituted due to injury in the second half.

Speaking in a press conference on Thursday afternoon, Ten Hag issued the club’s latest stance on the pair, explaining that they will make a final assessment in the coming days to see if they are available to face Liverpool.

“We have to wait,” he told reporters. “Of course, we don’t go into risk, into the last game of the tour, going into the season next week already, into an important game [against Manchester City].

“We are still within the 24 hours after a game, so the final assessment we have to make and we will see if they are ready for the final game on Saturday against Liverpool.”

The Dutchman also issued two further updates on returning players, explaining that Copa America-winning duo Alejandro Garnacho and Lisandro Martínez are due to return to Carrington in the next few days.

“Of course we a plan for every individual where they have to show up and that plan is now running. Alejandro will already, tomorrow, start training. Licha will start on Monday so I have it in my mind, and that there is a plan and the need for every player in the off-season.

“We know every player where they are fitness-wise, and next week, we have to bring everything together.”

United are gearing up to face Fulham on the opening day of the Premier League campaign. The two sides will face at Old Trafford on Friday, 16 August.
