Man United urged to make controversial signing – “He would make them a better team”

Manchester United have been urged by club legend Andy Cole to make what many would consider to be a controversial signing this summer.

The Reds have already signed Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee in the transfer window, but more signings are needed to improve Erik ten Hag’s squad.

In particular, changes are needed in the midfield. Casemiro and Christian Eriksen are past their best and could be allowed to leave, while Scott McTominay might also depart.

United do not have a large budget this summer, however, and they could end up looking at cheaper options or loan deals.

Andy Cole has suggested that a move for free agent Adrien Rabiot would be a smart move for his former club, with the ex-striker of the belief that the Frenchman would make Ten Hag’s team better.

“I remember watching him when he was a kid at Manchester City,” Cole said in a recent interview. “He’s the same age as my son and they were both at the club at the same time. I could tell that he had something about him and was very talented.

“If the opportunity came around to sign him on a free, then why wouldn’t you consider it?

“He’s done very well for Juventus, he’s a mainstay in the French national team, and it’s not easy to get in that side because of some of the midfielders they have.

“I think he’s a really good player, and he would definitely improve what Manchester United have.

“Thinking long-term again, he would make Manchester United a better team and I wouldn’t turn my nose up at it if you can get him on a free. He’s a good player.”

While the former Juventus midfielder could be a good deal on the surface, many fans would be against a pursuit due to the potential wage issues.

Rabiot’s mother, Veronique, is his agent and is well-known for her confrontational behaviour and extreme demands. They would likely be searching for a huge pay packet since he would be joining the club on a free transfer.

United fans have had a history of dealing with problematic agents, and it would certainly be a turn-off for some should the club move forward with any deal for Rabiot.
