Raphaël Varane “in talks” to join Serie A club, ex-Premier League player is key
It seems as if former Manchester United defender and fan favourite Raphaël Varane is reportedly in talks to join a Serie A club this summer.
Raphaël Varane spent three seasons at Manchester United following his £27 million move from Real Madrid in 2021, where he won two trophies alongside Erik ten Hag.
Although a fan favourite, Varane suffered multiple injury issues while at Old Trafford, missing 45 fixtures between 2021 and 2024.

Signing in the same summer as Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo, he was by far the most successful of the trio at the club, lifting the Carabao Cup and FA Cup alongside partner Lisandro Martínez, who he built an effective but time-limited relationship due to consistent injury issues from both players.
However, Varane is departing Old Trafford as a fond member of the club, and his emotional goodbye video and celebrations after the FA Cup final win over Manchester City at the end of May.
According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Varane has seemingly found a new club, having already held face-to-face talks with recently promoted Serie A club Como 1907 over a move to Italy this summer.
The significance of Como is that former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas is the current assistant coach at the Italian outfit, and Varane will continue to speak to both the club’s board and Fabregas.
Como is said to have been “dreaming” of signing Varane, who is, of course, available as a free agent. It looks like, should talks go well, they can achieve such a transfer.
It would be a huge scoop for Como to sign such a prestigious player. Given their recent promotion to Serie A, he can help many of their current stars adapt to playing at such a high level.
We wish Raphaël Varane all the best on his next adventure.
