Raphael Varane has sent Manchester United fans a clear message after their dramatic 3-2 win against Aston Villa on Boxing Day.

The French defender was key during the fightback against Unai Emery’s side. Despite going down two goals early on, they managed to secure an important three points in the end.

Alejandro Garnacho scored twice before Rasmus Hojlund’s late winning goal. Varane worked alongside Jonny Evans to ensure that no further defensive mistakes were made at the other end.

Varane’s campaign so far has had major interruptions with both injury and being left out for Harry Maguire. This has led to concerns about his future at Old Trafford.

Various reports have stated that the defender could leave United in the upcoming windows, with former club RC Lens being interested. The 30-year-old has previously stated that he’d want to retire at the French club, United or Real Madrid.

Amidst this interest, French outlet L’Équipe reports that the player is open to leaving Old Trafford, with Lens being one of the clubs he is ready to depart for.

However, after full-time on Tuesday, Varane produced an nine-word message to United fans to suggest that he is focused on his future with the club for the rest of the season.

On Instagram after victory against Aston Villa, the veteran defender wrote: “Résilience and emotions, that’s Manchester United. Let’s keep working.”

Following the victory, United now sit sixth in the Premier League but must be able to continue to show similar performances.

Too often this season have they slipped once having looked to turn a corner.

They face Nottingham Forest next and then have just one Premier League fixture against Tottenham Hotspur in January.
