Former Manchester United star Raphael Varane has spoken out about a crazy admission from his time at the club after sharing his personal message to Casemiro.
Raphael Varane was a fan favourite from during his three years at Manchester United. Initially signing under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the same window which brought in Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho, Varane was a statement of intent to the rest of the Premier League.
Whilst injuries did not swing in favour of the World Cup winner and a managerial switch to Ralf Rangnick then to Erik ten Hag caused some bumps in the road, Varane remained crucial in securing two trophies to add to his impressive collection.
The Frenchman has spoken out about one particularly shocking aspect of his time at the club, calling back at a moment shared with former teammate at both United and Real Madrid, Casemiro.
The pair had a similar trajectory in their careers making the move from Los Blancos to the Red Devils bringing experience and a winning mentality to the club.
Varane’s ‘wild’ Man United trophy celebrations
When speaking via The Bridge Show, Varane looked back on his silverware success at United, comparing it to his Real Madrid days.
“I celebrated winning the Carabao Cup or the FA Cup more than the Champions League… It was Wild!
“In England, and Manchester in particular, you truly feel the passion for football; you live it every day.
“Now that time has passed, I have no regrets about joining Manchester United. It was an incredible experience.
“Why did I leave Real Madrid? After we won the Champions League in 2018, we barely celebrated it. It felt like a normal thing, just another step; our mindset was already on winning the next Champions League.
“Then, that summer, I won the World Cup. I needed a new challenge.”
Varane and Casemiro’s powerful partnership
Similarly to Varane, Casemiro has announced that he will leave the club come the end of the season with his contract coming to an end. Fans are nothing but grateful to the pair for their efforts at the club, despite heavy doubters when they signed.
Varane personally replied to Casemiro’s announcement via Instagram, calling the Brazil international “Mi Soldado” (my soldier).
The duo tasted success in both Spain and England as they both became leaders within the United squad, showing stability in a team which saw lots of change in recent years. Regardless of the changes, both saw trophies in their times, which have become some of the most celebrated trophies in their entire careers.
From Champions Leagues to Carabao Cups, both will go down as legends of the game, and Manchester will always be a home to them.
