Raphaël Varane has confirmed that he will be leaving Manchester United when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The French defender will depart after three seasons with United, having joined under Ole Gunnar Solskjær in the summer of 2021.

His departure is one of many expected to come in the summer transfer window as INEOS look to reshape the squad at Old Trafford.

The likes of Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelöf also have uncertain futures, meaning that United need to act quickly to repair their central defensive unit.

Varane’s departure has seemingly helped encourage United to act on the situation of Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo, who was reported to be closing in on a move to Newcastle.

The defender’s contract at Craven Cottage runs out at the end of the season and so he will be available to pick up on a free contract. United have been heavily interested in the 26-year-old for several months.

However, despite The Magpies having stepped up in their contract talks with Adarabioyo over the weekend, Alex Crook of talkSPORT has reported that United are now trying to hijack the deal.

It was stated that Jason Wilcox, the club’s newly-appointed technical director, is keen to bring Adarabioyo to Old Trafford, having worked with the defender during his time in Manchester City’s academy.

The report concluded that The Reds are aiming to make two signings in the centre of defence this summer and Adarabioyo could be one of them if he can be convinced of the move.

One factor that reportedly went Newcastle’s way is that they can guarantee the defender game time at St James’ Park.

Yet, United may be able to provide the example of this season, where their defensive line has constantly been changing, as proof that Adarabioyo would get his chances at Old Trafford.
