Rasmus Højlund is closing in on a move to Manchester United as Erik ten Hag looks to sign a striker this summer.

After Manchester United backed out of a deal for Harry Kane, Erik ten Hag has landed on young Danish striker Rasmus Højlund as his preferred choice.

It is claimed by multiple journalists that both United and Atalanta are close to agreeing on a fee for the striker.

Højlund himself is said to have already agreed personal terms with the club on a contract that will span five years, with United also having an option to extend it by a further year, should they wish to.

With Atalanta set to play Bournemouth in a pre-season friendly on Saturday afternoon, it is said that he will not be starting for the Italian side but will instead feature on the bench, and as Mark McAdam mentions below, it appeared that Højlund was saying his goodbyes.

Despite receiving higher wage offers from the likes of PSG, Højlund dreams of playing for United, and is only focused on securing his move.

With the striker already in England, this could be the perfect chance for United to finalise an agreement and begin his medical ahead of his proposed move, and get him into the squad in time for the start of the Premier League season.

United will host Wolves at Old Trafford on Monday 14 August as they get their 2023/24 campaign underway – with Højlund likely to be part of the squad.
