The Premier League have confirmed the match officials as Manchester United look to face Southampton after the international break.

The Reds have had a tough start to the season, securing just one win in their opening three Premier League matches.

Their recent 3-0 defeat to Liverpool followed a narrow loss to Brighton. Despite a promising win against Fulham, Erik ten Hag’s squad has much to address. The international break has come at a crucial time, allowing several players to regain full fitness.

This will be essential for Ten Hag’s team, as they are set to face a busy schedule with two matches per week once the season resumes. They will begin this demanding stretch with a Saturday game against Southampton.

Ahead of the game, the Premier League have confirmed who will be officiating the tie.

Match referees

Stuart Attwell (pictured below) will referee on Saturday at St. Mary’s Stadium. Attwell only officiated one Manchester United fixture last season, but it was a thrilling encounter.

After going 2-0 down inside four minutes of the game, United came back at Old Trafford against Nottingham Forest, with Christian Eriksen, Casemiro, and Bruno Fernandes scoring to secure a 3-1 win.

Constantine Hatzidakis and Nick Hopton will be on the sidelines, acting as Attwell’s assistant referees during the game. Gavin Ward has been handed the fourth official job, separating Erik ten Hag and Russell Martin on Saturday afternoon.

Chris Kavanagh has been appointed as the video assistant referee. Lee Betts will act as assistant VAR.
