The Premier League has confirmed the match referee for Manchester United against Leicester City, as a harrowing memory returns for the Reds.

Ruud van Nistelrooy is set to manage his fourth game as Manchester United‘s interim boss as he prepares his side to face Leicester City in the Premier League.

Since Erik ten Hag‘s sacking two weeks ago, United’s results have been positive. They defeated Leicester 5-2 in the Carabao Cup before recording a 1-1 draw with Chelsea in the Premier League and a 2-0 win over PAOK in the Europa League.

The officials for the tie have been confirmed below.

Confirmed officials

Peter Bankes (pictured below) will be the referee on Sunday afternoon in Manchester. Bankes has officiated five Premier League matches this season, one in the Championship and two Carabao Cup ties.

Bankes has not met United this season but officiated them once during the last campaign, during a tragic 3-0 loss against Bournemouth at Old Trafford, which will be a harrowing memory for all United fans.

So far, Bankes has issued 22 yellow cards in the Premier League this season and one red which was due to two yellow cards. He has also awarded one penalty in the competition for Chelsea against Brighton when Cole Palmer scored four goals in the first half.

Eddie Smart and Nick Greenhalgh will be on the sidelines as Bankes’ assistant referees during the game. Craig Pawson will separate Van Nistelrooy and Enzo Maresca as the fourth official on Sunday afternoon.

Jarred Gillett has been appointed as the Video Assistant Referee. Darren Cann will act as assistant VAR.
