Manchester United will open their 2023/24 Premier League season with an Old Trafford fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

After finishing third in the last Premier League campaign, Erik ten Hag will be looking to get Manchester United off to a flying start on Monday evening.

With a fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers the first match-up of the season for the Reds, it represents a chance to get on the front foot in the early doors of the 2023/24 campaign.

United are expected to be without seven players for the opening game, with Amad, Kobbie Mainoo, Rasmus Højlund, Anthony Martial, Tyrell Malacia, Tom Heaton, and Dean Henderson all injured.

The game will no doubt see new signings André Onana and Mason Mount make their debuts under Ten Hag.

Confirmed match officials

The referee for Monday night’s tie will be Simon Hooper. He refereed three Manchester United games last season, including the 2-0 wins over Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest. He handed out only one red card and awarded six penalties across all competitions in 2022/23.

On the sidelines will be Simon Long and Adrian Holmes, who will act as assistant referees for Hooper during the game. The fourth official job has been handed to Darren Bond, who will separate Erik ten Hag and Gary O’Neil on Monday.

The Video Assistant Referee job has been handed to Michael Salisbury, who will be assisted by Richard West.
