The Premier League have confirmed the match officials who will referee Manchester United’s Premier League clash against Chelsea at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening.

Manchester United‘s search to re-ignite their winning form in the Premier League continues as Erik ten Hag leads his squad against Chelsea at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

It’s a fixture that has often provided entertainment, with the tie last season ending 4-0 to United at home after two late goals by Jorginho and Casemiro made the Stamford Bridge episode end in a 1-1 draw.

Ten Hag was scathing of his side’s defensive performance against Newcastle, saying: “You could say we defended quite well [as per the statistics], but I prefer for us to stay further away from our goal.

“I’d prefer us to have more of the ball and play in their half. We had our moments where we could make good movements, but it was not enough. We need to be more dominant in a game.”

Confirmed match officials

The referee for the Old Trafford tie will be Chris Kavanagh. He has refereed Manchester United once so far this season – the 1-0 loss against Crystal Palace during match-week 7 of the Premier League season.

On the sidelines will be Simon Bennett and Dan Robathan, who will act as assistant referees for Kavanagh during the game. The fourth official job has been handed to Tim Robinson, who will separate Erik ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettinho on Saturday.

The Video Assistant Referee job has been handed to David Coote, who will be assisted by Sian Massey-Ellis. Coote was the referee during United’s 2-0 win over Newcastle in February 2023, where Ten Hag laid claim to his first trophy as manager of the club.
