Predicted Manchester United XI to face Borussia Dortmund (pre-season)
Manchester United will take on Borussia Dortmund on Monday in Las Vegas in their final pre-season fixture in the United States.
The Reds will look to bounce back from two consecutive losses as they lock horns with the reigning Bundesliga runner-up Dortmund in the Allegiant Stadium.
Last week, Erik Ten Hag fielded a comparatively young team filled with academy players against Wrexham. However, the team failed to make much of an impact as the Red Devils lost the match 3-1.
In their last fixture against Spanish giants Real Madrid, Andre Onana made his unofficial debut as United fielded their strongest playing 11 but succumbed to Madrid’s brilliance as they eventually lost 2-0.
United’s talented winger Amad Diallo suffered an injury during United’s last win against Arsenal, he made a return to the squad against Madrid but did not make an appearance. Kobbie Mainoo also suffered an ankle injury in the opening minutes against Real Madrid and is ruled out for the beginning of the season.
Onana is set to continue in between the sticks. The African custodian had an impressive debut match. Although he failed to keep a clean sheet, Onana was instrumental in building from the back.
Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane are set to be the central defensive pairing. The duo is also the favorite to start for United in the Premier League. Both the defenders have cemented their places well in the starting 11 for the English giant.
Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are set to start on either flanks. While Tyrell Malacia is left out the tour squad, Shaw might be replaced by Alvaro Fernandez in the second half to get some minutes under his belt.
Diego Dalot can also make a brief appearance in the second half in his quest to give a tough fight to Wan-Bissaka for a place in the starting 11.
Erik Ten Hag used a midfield three of Casemiro, Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes and is expected to not make any changes. Scott McTominay, Donny van de Beek and Christian Eriksen can also feature in the second half.
Dan Gore, who provided a stunning assist to Van de Beek earlier in the pre-season could also be used as a handy substitute, later in the game.
The fans might expect to see a few changes in the front three. Anthony Martial trained with the team for the first time and could be United’s No. 9 for the game.
With the signing of Rasmus Hojlund, the Frenchman is set to warm the bench and the remaining few matches will be very important for him if he intends to put up a fight with United’s new No. 9.
Marcus Rashford and Antony will most probably start on the either wings. Rashford has recently revealed that he prefers playing on the left wing for United.
Jadon Sancho, on the other hand, is being used a false-nine and hence Ten Hag might go ahead with Antony on the right wing. Facundo Pellistri, who impressed in his cameo against Madrid and Garnacho, will get some minutes in the latter stages of the game.
Full Manchester United predicted XI:
Onana; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Martínez, Shaw; Casemiro, Mount, Fernandes; Antony, Martial, Rashford.
