Mason Greenwood has reportedly opened up on his Manchester United future as the 21-year-old attracts loan interest from Italy.

The Reds are expected to confirm their decision on the future of the forward soon.

Greenwood has been suspended by the club since January 2022 after videos circulated on social media that showed alleged abuse of his girlfriend.

He was arrested on charges of assault and attempted rape that month and further arrested in relation to threats to kill, but the Crown Prosecution Service eventually dropped the charges.

United decided to instigate their own internal investigation into the facts of the matter, keeping Greenwood suspended until further notice.

Latest reports have suggested that Greenwood does not see his immediate future at Old Trafford.

The Sun reporter Richard Moriarty stated that the 21-year-old believes a fresh start at United is ‘unlikely’ despite Erik ten Hag and several team-mates offering him support.

A departure seems less likely than a loan deal, which appears the most likely scenario when looking at the reports so far.

The aforementioned report also revealed that former United manager Jose Mourinho has reached out to Greenwood to offer him the chance to join Roma on loan next season.

Mourinho, who was at United between 2016 and 2018, introduced Greenwood to first-team sessions as a 16-year-old when he was at the club.

It was added that one source said: “Jose rang Mason’s dad and also spoke with Mason. He told him the best way out of his current situation is to start playing football — and that eventually all the hassle will fade away.

“Mason was pleased that he got in touch and it has lifted his spirits. He wants to get back playing and is just waiting for United to tell him what the future holds.”

This follows recent reports from The Sun which explained that three other Italian clubs – Inter Milan, AC Milan and Juventus – have had contacts with The Reds about signing the player on loan next term.

Greenwood has played 129 times for Manchester United and scored 35 goals. He made his debut for the club in March 2019.
