“Perfect” star who Manchester United hold a “strong interest” in has rejected mega-offer, Old Trafford “talks” held

Manchester United’s summer transfer window has already taken several unexpected twists and turns as Rúben Amorim looks to reshape his current squad.

Manchester United entered the summer window with a clear transfer plan in mind and secured the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers for a fee of £62.5 million on 1 June.

In the following days, it was confirmed that Bruno Fernandes was staying at the club despite a £700,000-a-week contract offer from Al Hilal, and that Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo was also interested in signing for the club.

However, United’s first-choice striker target, Liam Delap, snubbed Amorim’s side in favour of a six-year contract with Chelsea, and soon after, Viktor Gyökeres notified all suitors that his preferred destination was Arsenal.

With United also needing to raise significant funds to continue spending this summer window, there is uncertainty about which direction United will take.

United hold “strong interest” in Aston Villa man

United want to add a new striker and midfielder to the club in the coming weeks, but there have also been rumours that the club are considering signing a new goalkeeper if André Onana were to depart.

Athlough Amorim is happy to keep Onana at the club due to their good working relationship, as exclusively revealed by UtdDistrict last month, should the right offer arrive, United would consider his sale.

According to Birmingham World, United continue to hold a “strong interest” in Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martínez, who has been touted as a “perfect” replacement for Onana.

Furthermore, The Athletic have stated that United have held talks and kept in touch with the 32-year-old’s representatives, although it has been noted elsewhere that no club-to-club talks have taken place.

Martínez has rejected a mega-offer to stay in Europe

United is said to be Martínez’s preferred destination this summer, although The Athletic state that any chance of his move to United hinges on Onana’s future.

It has been further detailed that Martínez has also been subject to a mega-offer from the Saudi Pro League, although the player has already made it clear he will not accept, as he wants to remain in Europe.

Onana has also lent his services to United in a different way in recent weeks, with the player reportedly directly involved in talks with Mbeumo to bring his compatriot to United this summer.

Amorim is known to appreciate the player’s leadership skills and never-say-die mentality, which will complement the mindset of United’s most significant players next season.
