Pep Guardiola sends bitter message to Ruben Amorim and Man Utd after Sporting 4-1 Man City
Pep Guardiola has sent a bitter message to Ruben Amorim and Manchester United after his Sporting side won 4-1 against Manchester City.
Few Manchester United managers in history have been able to make a stronger first impression than incoming head coach Ruben Amorim did on Tuesday evening.
The soon-to-be United manager delivered a stunning performance as his current team, Sporting CP, triumphed over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City with a 4-1 victory in their Champions League clash, marking Amorim’s final home game with the Portuguese club.
Despite Phil Foden opening the scoring, Sporting responded with four goals, including a remarkable Viktor Gyökeres hat-trick.
The former Coventry City forward has thrived under Amorim’s guidance, amassing 23 goals in just 17 appearances this season, and is being heavily linked to Old Trafford.
Amorim is making a strong impression for United fans and they will be hoping that he can recreate that result in the upcoming Manchester Derby.
Speaking to the media after the game, Guardiola provided a bitter response to the prospect of facing Amorim more times as United boss.
“We will face them two times in the Premier League and maybe the FA Cup. In the Champions League it is not possible,” he said.
On the other hand, a modest Amorim explained how much more he needs to learn and improve while at Old Trafford.
“He [Pep Guardiola] is so much better than me at the moment. But I believe a lot in my newest club,” Amorim told reporters.
“We will start from a lower level, maybe I can say that, and we will improve the team, the club. Let’s see.
“We cannot transport one reality to another context. Manchester Untied cannot play the way we play, they cannot play so defensively, and we will have to adapt ourselves.”
Amorim and United will come up against Guardiola’s side next at the Etihad Stadium on 15 December.
