Pep Guardiola says he “doesn’t know” how to fix issue vs Ruben Amorim in stunning Man City admission
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has admitted that he ‘doesn’t know’ how to fix one issue ahead of his clash against Ruben Amorim and Manchester United.
Manchester United and their 39-year-old manager, Ruben Amorim, face a tough challenge on the weekend against rivals Manchester City.
Although the Reds have yet to find their stride under Amorim’s leadership, Pep Guardiola is navigating one of the most difficult periods of his tenure at City.
City have managed only one win in their last ten matches, suffering seven defeats during that stretch. With Rodri sidelined by a long-term injury, they appear more vulnerable than ever.
Their latest loss came in the Champions League against Juventus and in the aftermath of that game, Guardiola spoke about the upcoming Manchester Derby.
As things stand, the City boss will be without Rico Lewis, Nathan Ake, John Stones and Manuel Akanji in his backline for the Premier League clash.
That leaves him with minimal defensive options to face Amorim’s side–Kyle Walker, Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol–and is unsure about how he will approach the game.
“I don’t know what to do! I need players, we will see what happens today and tomorrow, and the players we have and we will see about it,” he told reporters.
“Maybe some wingers have to play as a full-back, or Matheus maybe can play as a full-back, or maybe play with five-at-the-back with wing-backs as wingers. I don’t know.
“I’m thinking what to do for the situation that we have just three defenders. But the soul and the spirit of this team is there…”
Guardiola is known for his tactical excellence but is sweating after a few injuries. It is a wonder how United got through last season with their ever-injured backline.
However, despite all of these issues for United’s rivals, it will still undoubtably be a difficult affair at the Etihad Stadium.
Amorim will be eyeing his second victory of the season against Guardiola, and will know how important this game could be to properly kickstart his United reign.
