Paul Scholes has been criticising Michael Carrick this week and some of his previous comments about the Manchester United boss have emerged.
Michael Carrick remained unbeaten as Manchester United manager until Wednesday night, when the Reds suffered a 2–1 defeat to a 10-man Newcastle side.
It was a disappointing display and result, though United still sit third in the Premier League table and remain favourites to secure a Champions League spot.
Nevertheless, Carrick has faced growing criticism in recent days over the team’s performances, with some of his former teammates joining the discussion.
Paul Scholes took to Instagram after the match, claiming that Carrick’s team have been “c**p” in recent games.
“Michael has definitely got something special about him… cos United have been crap last 4 games,” he wrote, before deleting the post the following morning.
Scholes said Carrick should feel ‘guilty’ about managerial decision
Scholes’ criticism of Carrick was surprising to many considering how often he defended Ole Gunnar Solskjær when he was in charge at Old Trafford.
But when Solskjær was sacked, and Carrick took over on an interim basic for three games, Scholes suggested that it was disrespectful as he was part of the Norwegian’s backroom staff.
He said at the time: “I feel with Ole he put a lot of trust into Michael, Kieran (McKenna) and Mike Phelan which is why they shouldn’t be at the club now.
“They’re all good friends and they’re good people but if I was them I’d feel guilty still working at the club after Ole put so much trust in them.”
Carrick did explain at the time that he had spoken personally with Solskjær about taking the job on an interim basis. “I thought that was the right thing to do.”
Some fans are suggesting that this is the reason for Scholes’ criticism of his former teammate.
Carrick does not have perfect conditions
The headlines have been dominated by Scholes’ comments, with former teammate Patrice Evra saying that he hopes Scholes was hacked on social media.
It is strange that United remain third in the table. After finishing 15th last year, there are clear positive signs this term and Carrick is not working in perfect conditions.

He does not have a natural left-winger in the squad and recent injuries to the likes of Patrick Dorgu and Lisandro Martínez have interrupted performance levels.
Carrick has finally lost a game and will know how to deal with the criticism, although he probably did not expect most of it to come from his former teammates.
