“P*ss right off…” – Paul Scholes fuming with potential England change for Euro 2024 knockouts
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has shared his thoughts on a potential England change ahead of the Euro 2024 knockout stages.
England finished top of their group but have yet to impress in the tournament and must improve ahead of their clash against Slovakia.
Gareth Southgate has had particular troubles in the centre of midfield, where both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Conor Gallagher have struggled.
United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo impressed in his cameo last time out after replacing Gallagher at half-time.
That has led to reports that the 19-year-old will start in midfield alongside Declan Rice for the knockout stages.
However, others have suggested that moving Jude Bellingham back is the right solution and would allow Phil Foden to occupy the no.10 position.
Scholes, who is a big fan of Mainoo, has expressed his feelings on the midfield solution for Southgate on Instagram this week.
The former United midfielder wrote: “[I] keep hearing drop Bellingham back next to Rice… piss right off.”
Scholes added, “Mainoo will make you play, Foden and Bellingham will win you games, think forward and take less touches pls Dec [Rice]. Laters.”
England face Slovakia on Sunday evening and will be hoping to show a much-improved performance after widespread criticism.
