Paul Scholes completely disagrees with Paul Merson’s claim about ‘arrogant’ Man Utd decision

Paul Scholes has completely disagreed with fellow pundit Paul Merson about one decision from Manchester United which the former Arsenal player described as ‘arrogant’.

Manchester United are preparing for an extremely important game in the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur next week.

After a dismal campaign in the Premier League, the Reds somehow still have the opportunity to win silverware and book their place in the Champions League next term.

It would be the third trophy for the club in as many years despite many considering this period one of the most turbulent in recent history.

Despite that, United still have no plans for an open-top bus parade if they win the competition, with the squad instead set to have a more low-key celebration at Carrington.

The last parade United had was in 2013 after Sir Alex Ferguson secured the 20th Premier League title for the club. They did not celebrate in style when they won the Europa League in 2017.

Merson says United are ‘arrogant’ to ignore trophy parade

After the news was reported that United would not have a parade for winning the Europa League, every fan was glad with the decision. Some even claimed that it was a given.

But it was Arsenal legend Paul Merson who was upset about it, with the former midfielder believing it is an ‘arrogant’ decision from those at Old Trafford.

He believes that they should have a parade if they win as they should not underestimate being able to win silverware.

“The trophies do not come thick and fast,” Merson said on Sky Sports. “Man United are a million miles off. Enjoy it (trophies) while you can. For me, it’s a bit of arrogance.

“I would want a parade. They could win a trophy and if they win it, they have won more than Arsenal. Arsenal would love to have a parade. It is hard to win trophies, so do not underestimate winning one.”

Scholes completely disagrees with Merson on United parade

Following on from Merson’s comments, Paul Scholes hit back by claiming that there should be “absolutely no chance” that United have a parade.

The United legend acknowledges that it would be a great achievement for the club but simply believes that parades should be left for the biggest competitions at United, and that it would be “slightly embarrassing” if the club did one in their current situation.

There’s no way they should have a parade for winning the Europa League, absolutely no chance,” Scholes wrote in his TNT Sports column.

“I think it would be slightly embarrassing. I think the key is the prize of Champions League football next season with a better budget and [chance of] attracting players.

“Of course, it would be brilliant to win the trophy – winning any trophy is great – but when it’s Manchester United and the Europa League, the idea of a parade is just a no-no.”

It seems like almost every United fan agrees with Scholes and it’s strange that it could even be considered an argument.
