Manchester United have engaged in talks to sign Patrick Dorgu, and Fabrizio Romano has now revealed Lecce’s price for a transfer in January.

Manchester United are looking to sign a new left wing-back for Rúben Amorim in the January transfer window, as the team continues to struggle defensively.

United’s backline has been a major concern under Amorim, with set-piece defending proving to be a recurring weakness. Strengthening the defence has become a priority, with left-back identified as a critical area requiring attention.

Luke Shaw, the club’s long-standing left-back, has faced ongoing injury issues since suffering a horrific double leg fracture during a Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven in 2015.

Tyrell Malacia, Shaw’s deputy, recently returned from a gruelling 17-month absence following multiple knee surgeries.

In their absence, Diogo Dalot has been filling in at left-back, though Amorim has acknowledged that Dalot is better suited to his natural role on the right.

Dorgu transfer price revealed

With former United target Nuno Mendes now likely to stay at Paris St. Germain, the club have seemingly turned their attention to Lecce left-back Patrick Dorgu, with Fabrizio Romano explaining that formal talks are set to open between the clubs.

United see Dorgu as a “high priority” target, with their need for a left-back the most pressing problem in Amorim’s current squad.

However, Lecce are said to be demanding around £34 million for the 20-year-old player, who has previously been described as a “superb” left-back.

United are also eyeing Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez, but the Hungarian international is said to prefer a move to Liverpool over either United or Manchester City.

Dorgu keen on United transfer

Further, Romano explained that Dorgu would be keen on making the switch from the Serie A to Old Trafford.

With Antony’s loan move to Real Betis almost complete, the club now have space for new arrivals, with the club hoping to get Dorgu through the door before the end of the winter transfer window.

A report from Mail Sport has explained that Lecce expect a formal offer for the player to come in over the coming hours, with formal negotiations having already been held.

Dorgu was crowned Denmark’s Young Player of the Year in 2024, beating the likes of Rasmus Højlund to the award.
