Patrick Dorgu has done something “not normal” to secure Manchester United transfer amid Bruno Fernandes message
Patrick Dorgu has done something “not normal” to secure a transfer to Manchester United following a message from Bruno Fernandes.
Manchester United are looking to sign a new left wing-back for Rúben Amorim during the January transfer window, as defensive struggles continue to hamper the team’s performances.
United’s inability to defend set pieces has been a recurring issue under Amorim, with the left-back position highlighted as an area requiring immediate reinforcement.
Luke Shaw, United’s long-serving left-back, has been plagued by injuries ever since his devastating double leg fracture in a Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven in 2015.
Tyrell Malacia, Shaw’s backup, has also endured setbacks, recently returning from a gruelling 17-month recovery following multiple surgeries on a severe knee injury.
In their absence, Diogo Dalot has been used as cover on the left, but Amorim has acknowledged that Dalot is far better suited to his natural role on the right side of defence.
Dorgu’s latest move speaks volumes
Lecce’s 20-year-old Patrick Dorgu is the player United seem most adamantly interested in, with the club having seen two bids rejected already.
According to a report from Corriere dello Sport, United are expected to push for a third bid soon that will come close to Lecce’s £34 million valuation.
According to SoloLecce, Dorgu is keen on the move this month has now added pressure on to his club as his entire family are now staying in the region as they look to seal the transfer.
It’s stated that it is “not normal” for his family to be in the area and that his parents are pushing for United’s next offer to be accepted and for him to make a switch that will completely change his life.
United’s third bid for the player is expected to arrive in the coming days, and as Fabrizio Romano has detailed, the two clubs were in contact again on Monday.
Dorgu should listen to Fernandes’ public message
Dorgu would be joining United while still very much in the formative years of his career, which is a risky move as many before him have made the Old Trafford switch during their early 20s but failed to kick on.
Bruno Fernandes signed for United when he was 25 years old, and now as club captain, he is acutely aware of the pressures that signings fact at United.
“The reality is to play here you have to have that pressure, you have to have the balls to play for this club — that is what it is,” Fernandes explained last week.
“You have to feel that in every moment in every game it is a new chance to bring us back to the position we deserve.”
Dorgu is known to be a sound and confident player who is very focused on his football, but he would do well to head Fernandes’ public warning and understand that he may be entering a period of scrutiny and instability should he join United this window.
