Patrick Dorgu secret ‘agreement’ revealed as Lecce outline acceptable Manchester United offer
A secret agreement between Patrick Dorgu and Lecce has been revealed as Manchester United is told how much money it would take for a transfer to materialise.
Manchester United are seemingly closing in on the signing of 20-year-old left-back Patrick Dorgu from Lecce as Rúben Amorim looks to secure his first major signing after joining the Old Trafford club.
Under Amorim’s leadership, United have struggled at the back, with set-piece defending highlighted as a recurring vulnerability. Addressing these defensive frailties has become a key focus, with the left-back position requiring particular attention.
Luke Shaw, United’s long-serving left-back, has endured persistent injury problems ever since his devastating double leg fracture in a Champions League clash against PSV Eindhoven in 2015.
Tyrell Malacia, his understudy, only recently returned to action after a gruelling 17-month recovery from a serious knee injury that required multiple surgeries.
In their absence, Diogo Dalot has been deployed on the left, although Amorim has stated that the Portuguese full-back is far more comfortable in his natural right-sided role.
Lecce tell United how much to bid for Dorgu
On Monday morning, Fabrizio Romano revealed that Lecce would demand around £34 million for the Danish international should United want to sign him this summer.
However, in a boost for United, the Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport has reported that United will be able to convert some of this demand into activation clauses.
It’s stated that Lecce would be happy to accept an offer of around a guaranteed £30 million, with the other £4 million being made up of performance-based add-ons.
Gazzetta claims that United have already submitted one offer of just under £25 million, which was rejected a few days ago, but with Antony now likely to leave on loan to Real Betis, United is returned to the table, and there is a good chance an agreement can be reached.
Dorgu’s secret agreement with Lecce
Although Dorgu is seen as an incredibly important cog in manager Marco Giampaolo’s plans, the club do not consider him unsellable.
According to GiveMeSport, the new contract that Dorgu signed in October 2024 came with a secret verbal arrangement between the player and his Serie A outfit that, should a big club come calling, they would not stand in his way.
Provided that an offer came in that Lecce would find acceptable, which seems to sit at around £30 million, they would let him leave without much of a fight.
Dorgu is currently on a wage of around £10,000 a week, but should he move to United, this would likely increase by a significant amount.
