Patrick Dorgu to Manchester United now a “done deal” as “agreement reached” with Lecce, transfer fee revealed
According to a new report, Patrick Dorgu’s transfer to Manchester United is now a “done deal” after the two clubs reached an agreement for his signing.
Manchester United are targeting a new left wing-back for Rúben Amorim in the January transfer window as defensive weaknesses continue to undermine their season.
United’s struggles at the back, particularly their vulnerability from set pieces, have become a key concern under Amorim’s management. Reinforcing the left-back position is now seen as a priority.
Luke Shaw, the club’s first-choice left-back for many years, has faced persistent injury troubles since suffering a horrific double leg fracture in a Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven in 2015.
Tyrell Malacia, Shaw’s understudy, has also endured a difficult period, only recently returning from a gruelling 17-month layoff following multiple surgeries on a serious knee injury.
In their absence, Diogo Dalot has stepped in at left-back, but Amorim has made it clear that the Portuguese defender is far more comfortable playing in his natural position on the right.
United reach agreement for Dorgu transfer
United have been heavily targeting Lecce star Patrick Dorgu for the aforementioned position, and have been taking part in intense talks over the last few weeks with the Serie A side.
SoloLecce, the outlet that initially reported that meetings had taken place between the two clubs earlier this window, has now reported that after two failed bids, an agreement has been reached between the two parties.
The article states that United will pay around £30 million as the starting fee for Dorgu, with another £4.2 million in bonuses.
Previous reports had explained that United and Lecce had initiated contact again on Monday with Matteo Moretto explaining on Monday evening that the Serie A side were ready to say yes to United’s next bid.
Amorim’s thoughts on United signing Dorgu
With Amorim in dire need of a new left wing-back, various reports have explained the 40-year-old’s thoughts on signing Dorgu.

Amorim is said to see Dorgu as his ideal realistic transfer this month and has been pushing for United to get the deal over the line in the coming days.
United have also mulled over the possibility of re-signing Alvaro Fernandez from Benfica should they feel that Lecce were demanding too much for Dorgu, but it appears that the initial transfer will go through.
A big reason for United needing Dorgu is the consistent injuries to Shaw, who has not been available for over a month.
On Shaw, Amorim said last week: “He is going to be fit to train with the team. Then we have to start with more minutes, we do not have a lot of time to train.
“We have to put some exercises in 10 minutes and then he has to make extra work to improve his fitness. I don’t know [when he will play], it is two weeks to start training before I think about putting him in for some minutes.”
