Christian Eriksen failed to live up to Roy Keane’s call as Manchester United drew 2-2 with Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.

Goals from Rasmus Højlund and Marcus Rashford were not enough to overcome Tottenham on the evening as Richardson and Rodrigo Bentancur saw Manchester United draw honours even on Sunday afternoon.

Despite the draw, there were multiple positives that Erik ten Hag can take from the game, such as goals for Rashford and Højlund, while Lisandro Martínez returned to the team for the first time in four months.

However, one negative talking point from the game was Christian Eriksen’s performance, with the Danish midfielder having been hooked for Scott McTominay before the hour mark.

Eriksen was subject to a series of criticism from United during the performance, with many echoing a similar sentiment to Roy Keane ahead of the game, explaining that he did not have enough character and leadership to play at Old Trafford – something that the ex-United captain called for ahead of kick-off.

“We don’t know the characters or what the feel of this dressing room is. We look around, we’ve got players here who have won big trophies. They’ve won World Cups,” he said.

“I don’t know what the dynamics are like in the dressing room, but you just hope that when they have come to United they’ve enjoyed the pressure of playing for Man United. We’ve been critical of United the last few years, recruitment, the facilities.

“But we’ve come here early this morning. It’s still a great place to come and play football. It really is. I just hope there are enough characters and leadership to get United back to winning ways. It’s a long way back.

“Sometimes there are players that come to Man United, as we’ve seen, and it looks like the pressure of playing for Man United has been a bit too much for them.”
