Rasmus Højlund has revealed the Premier League player he hopes he can reach the level of for Manchester United.

Manchester United signed 20-year-old Ramsus Højlund for a fee of £72 million from Atalanta in the hope that Erik ten Hag can mould the striker into the elite goalscorer that Old Trafford so desperately desires.

So far, Højlund has scored three goals for the club, all in the Champions League, but has shown glimpses of just how good he can become.

He has drawn comparisons to Erling Halaand, who recently broke the Premier League record for most goals in a league season by one player, scoring 36 goals in 35 games.

Højlund, speaking to TV2, has explained that although he would rather not be compared to Haaland, he hopes to reach the Norweigan striker’s level in the future.

“I would rather not be compared to him. I think he is in a class of his own,” Højlund said.

“I hope that one day I can reach his level, but right now, I think it is too early. Erling is in any case the world’s best striker, if not the world’s best footballer. I don’t really want to be compared to him, but I hope that one day I can be like him.

“Who knows (if he can be as good as Haaland)? I am only 20 years old. We will have to see what it can end up with.”

Further to this, Højlund was asked how good he thinks he can become, to which he replied: “I do not know! We will have to see that. I take it one day at a time and try to get better every day. I like that there are expectations of me. I enjoy it.”
